Ah, but the other networks risk a fate much worse than commodity if they don't band together. Notice the widespread adoption of OpenSocial, including MySpace, Hi5, and Ning.

1) JSON for everything. Want to leave? Download your profile in a text file. 2) Make it like email. Every item has a "to" list. Nothing outside the list can see. 3) pubsubhubbub or webhooks. 4) OK. 5,6) Difficult to impossible.

I find this 'social' tunnel-vision saddening. The ideal model of communication is more akin to a pastebin, where you can quickly host any data abstraction, not just people profiles.

This policy was just changed. Now apps can store data as long as they like because they are in a contract with the user.

Interesting argument. Perhaps developers should be more critical of Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft for their closed gaming platforms.

Amen to higher frame rates. If you haven't played a video game at 90+ fps yet, you don't know what you're missing.

But Windows only dominates on the desktop. On the mobile side, it's Opera and Safari, plus other WebKit browsers. That's impossible to ignore.

The article cites this option will be available. But on higher resolutions, it doesn't make sense, because it increases the distance between the window and the menu, requiring more mouse movement.

Scribd is hard to view. Just look at the source and paste into something for highlighting (or use something like the JSONView extension). http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/show.json?id=12296272736

Or any kind of sharing widgets, for that matter. If only web admins would trust visitors to have their own bookmarklets or extensions, so that pages wouldn't have all the cruft.

Just as floppy has become the icon for Save buttons. You and I have used floppies, so it makes a fair amount of sense, but many people will never see a real one.
