Boundary safety is only one of many possible issues. For example, Rust makes it easier to work with arbitrary slices (not copied substrings) while statically verifying ownership of the original string.

If you mean in a comparison against AST interpretation, then I'd say that Rust tagged enums (which C doesn't have) are already essentially a bytecode, except properly aligned, so it makes sense that they have same or slightly bett

That's usually what NaN is used for (basically "None" for numbers).

They work on both - for example, if you specify $expr:expr, it will actually parse it as an expression node and won't allow to simply pass it into another macro as $pat:pat because of AST node type mismatch even if actual tokens are st

You don't need to bind `console.log` by the way (at least not in any recent version of Node.js or browsers).
