Or you have asked correctly (or not, that's hard to tell from the onset) and has given you a non-factual answer. For example, I asked ChatGPT for what would be the best introductory book for a subject (added some more conditions to mak

It's in _The Best of Gene Wolfe_, and is copied verbatim here in case anyone is curious: https://raymondwriteswrongs.wordpress.com/2015/04/22/writing... PS: I'm more of a fan of Zelazny, but I enjoy

The only thing I have in my "someday" list of tasks for Glancer is the possibility of adding/using the whisper binary to get captions when/if unavailable. Aside from that I just keep it more or less working by using it m

I had a huge backlog of tech videos, so I wrote me this (also to play a bit with Haskell, the base idea can be replicated easily in any language though): https://github.com/rberenguel/glancer

Yup, done. I thought the author would see it better here (also would make it visible for other people stumbling on the issue) but I have contacted separately explaining the issue.

It works extremely fast on an iPad Pro M1 (kind of expected, but it's _impressive_) although the app is built as "iPhone only", and strangely enough the iPad is cropping the upscaled iPhone app so the lower bar of image contr

Another chime for Differential Topology. It's incredibly readable and accessible (given the subject).

Mentally I always chuckle at MANGA (sleeve in Spanish, or the comic style),and it could also be MAGNA, but has possibly too good of a sound to it to be worth it.

Concept maps are not mind maps, concept maps work in a different way. I'll just offer a self-reference about concept maps [1] since there I have an explanation of how they work I like. [1]: https://mostlymaths.net/2021&

If we are throwing font recommendations here, I favour Monoid [M], I love its glyphs and look. But some years ago I installed Victor Mono [V] as a kind of practical joke on myself (it has italics , usually enabled for comments in the langu

IIRC creating muons is not that hard, but the fusion ratio was too small anyway. I still think combining it with some weak containment might work… I guess it doesn't and this is why it's not worked on anymore

Note: haven't watched the video (I might). Using muons as catalyst is "old news" [0], it didn't seem to work well enough in experiments. It was used by Arthur C. Clarke as the energy source for the ships in 2061: Odyssey

I got a Ginni [0] like… 2 years ago, and set it up as a chorded keyboard. I've had diagramming the layout (based on Colemak, and trying to follow some kind of "real layout logic") as a pending task for these two years, I may

Egan is probably far from an easy blanket recommendation, even here in HN. I enjoyed CR, but there are many parts extremely boring and way too detailed (which is usually his point and style) and that will put away a lot of people.

I didn't particularly enjoy WSC, although it was… more interesting than other books from him I have read. My favourite is (by far) Hard-boiled Wonderland and The End of The World. What did you think of it, if you have read it?
