Resources? That's hard to say - I'm not sure others address keeping bees like I do. I can offer a few examples. Varrora Destructor is a mite that afflicts colonies - it is voracious and a pain to get rid of. One of the best non-

CCD has impacted me - less than others as I only have a few hives. The numbers are astounding - 50-75% dead hives over winters are not uncommon. It puts an incredible amount of strain on the entire beekeeping system. I believe that CCD ha

This is very true. You'll never make that much as a hobby beekeeper. The real money is in pollination. That said, the hours worked calculation for me last year was $650 / 10-15 hours or so.

Botulism is very real and very scary. I wouldn't risk it on pasteurization. I would also not recommend pasteurized honey - it destroys a lot of what makes honey good when you heat it so high.

Actually, honey keeps as long as you don't get extra water into it. Almost nothing else does. The container is key for storing it in terrible conditions.

Bees really are "magic" as per the article. I've been beekeeping for 3 years now and I love it. Working with such programmable insects is almost like watching automata at work. Via simple inputs, complex behavior. I recommend

This does seem pretty steep, at least at first blush. A camera, two lasers, and a turntable. Add software - mostly front end work. That said, you are definitely paying for the MakerBot name - compare the price/capabilities of their Ma

You wouldn't see this in an XBox game though - the XBox SDK doesn't support it.

The Leap won't be a "real input device" until you can get your hands out of the flat orientation. At this point, it is a toy. I think the article is good coverage of the state of the device.

Invisalign braces and Vivera retainers are already 3D printed (using UV photopolymer and a laser). They just do it at a factory, because the 3D printer that can produce that level of detail/strength is terribly expensive.

I'm not sure that regulation for drones is "hackable". The FAA will most likely rule towards the prevailing use of drones - which will be for government organizations, not individual, untrained users. Also, this particular ru

The company was Canesta. ToF sensors were their thing. [1] Microsoft bought them in 2010, and it seems like they finally got their tech integrated (and cut Primesense out in the process). [1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canesta

The new Kinect has been reported to have all of the processing it needs internally - and a 2 GB/s data link to push it all down. I'm really excited to see what price point this comes in at.

Except K4W SDK is still closed source. This is simply the example code showing how the SDK works... You still need to have a K4W sensor head to use the Kinect for any commercial activity (rather than the Kinect for XBox).

That's different - special effects in movies make the impossible possible. A better actor couldn't conjure up the Grid. A better musician COULD sing on tune. It is well within human capability. Autotuning is a quick hack to make up for n

As the majority of robotics research in the US is paid for by the military, I think there's more of a market for "fast computation on board" than you'd think. Communication and networking is expensive and hard. As a practicing roboticist,

No, sorry, it can't. It comes down to sensor systems. The Google Car uses a Velodyne - and it is terrible in heavy rain, snow, or fog. It has radar, but that isn't accurate enough to allow driving. The human eye is an amazing sensor, one

Until they can solve the sensor issues, they won't be. Heavy rain, snow and fog are still damnably difficult for them to deal with in a reasonable fashion.
