Not sure I would call the area I lived in wealthy. Probably middle-class suburban area. My high school at the time did not offer SAT/ACT testing on campus. If I recall correctly, and it's been a while so I might be misremembering,

My problem with SAT/ACT actually has nothing to do with the test itself. I grew up very poor in suburban middle of nowhere and even with a waiver for the fee, I had no way of actually getting to a testing center. Parents worked 24

It doesn't surprise me that HN is so pro nuclear but I am very skeptical about reactor safety. I know I will get inundated with comments about how modern reactors are so safe and if everything is done correctly then there is no problem

Not the person you are asking but Solus is just very solid. There is nothing super special about it but it is one of the few distros I have ever used that "just works."

I had to use a Mac for work for a while. You are right you can tweak MacOS to your liking but the difference is Linux distros actively encourage tweaking while Apple actively discourages and tries to get in the way.

If you aren't gaming then latency concerns are really overblown.

I understand what you mean and I agree about everyone whining that the "sky is falling" but in my opinion, you shouldn't collect what you can't easily give me.

I can see this as well. A lot of old forums I used to run on have been hacked and spammed to death.

Couple weeks ago I made this post about self-hosting https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30618577 My conclusion coming out of that thread was self-hosting is not a thing I'm going to do. I don't have the time or

That's irrelevant though. The above posters aren't saying "stop using Python." They are defending the use of shell scripts. Both are tools and both have appropriate times where they should be used.

Let me flip the question, as the creator of a song, why am I obligated to provide you a lossless download of it?

Python resolves this with docstrings but in general, assuming it is not self explanatory while a function exist, is it really necessary to go the whole nine with literate programming instead of just adding a few comments to explain why this

I like literate programming in theory but the most common response I see to it is that writing self documenting code is better because as you are working on a code base with many people, it is unlikely they will keep your prose up to date a

I think I'm more anti-piracy than the average person and despite bitwize being downvoted to oblivion, they are right. You aren't entitled to anything anyone creates. However, piracy is also 100% a service problem that has been exa

It depends on a lot of things like when you bought the game and who you bought it from. Some issues get fixed over time and some companies are just put out better products than other. A good example of this recently is Hitman 3 which may ve

The answer is networking. You want the best way to get a job? Networking. Most bootcamps would be more successful if they spent 95% of the time teaching you how to network then at the end told you to go to CS50x or something.
