I’m not arguing against privacy, or for this kind of abusive tech used in the system. I’m just saying that this particular story doesn’t make for a great exemplar, anymore than the guy who was nailed because of his smart water meter. There

Organized crime has typically been highly diversified, and it seems odd that the most successful organized criminal organizations would ignore those opportunities. Typically so-called vice crimes such as illegal prostitution and gambling ar

In quantum suicide, your means of death must be both the result of a quantum superposition, and 100% lethal... otherwise you might just be in this universe, horribly maimed. Now, a nuke on your lap with the trigger hooked up to sense the de

This is possible, but probably represents a drastic misunderstanding of MWI/QM. I’d you’re thinking I. Terms of branches from quantum superpositions, then it would be a certainty, but a certainty among u counted multitudes. If you’re t

Oooh... I stand corrected then. It would certainly make a ton of sense for a bathing culture like Japan, but for showers... eh. Heated seat with bidet and air though? Oh hell yes please.

How’s the suicide rate among evangelical Christians? Southern Baptists? If you tell young people to shape up or be damned, some will implode, especially LGBT youth, people struggling with addictions, atheists, etc. Sadly (imo) Mormons are l

Sounds like a way to scald someone with a hack. Edit: There was a self-filling bathtube that I could program directly from the kitchen. How much do you want to bet that a US version would be networked, probably smartphone integrated?

I don’t think that’s dumb, and the answer is... sort of. The easiest way to make it work would be to have the device somehow help to heat and cool you internally, which would save you energy. You might be able to use the power to produce AT

I’m not a Mormon, or even a Christian, so I have no stake here. What the fuck? No. I’ve traveled all over, and met a lot of Mormons and have Mormon friends. The most sinister thing they’re into is family game night. Ok, I’m no fan of the mi

Rather, two strains of C. Diff have enhanced trehalose metabolism. It’s 5e trehalose you eat which feeds it well, in your gut. The ice cream itself was/is safe in terms of pathogens.

It also goes to show that Soylent was (before 1.5 at least) a bad idea. I wonder if it still is, given that they switched one disaccharide (trehalose) for another (isomaltulose).

Just to add to your objections about wasted energy, I’d add that energy and resources would be expended to build the parts for these things. Wear is proportional to use, so that’s another source of both dissipation, and material losses.

I wonder what aspects of human beauty chickens are perceiving? Purely at a guess, I would say symmetry of features and signs of health/reproductive health. Given that they’re looking st faces, this seems most likely to me.
