In my experience Mint still has the smoothest process for Nvidia drivers, making it the first suggestion for gamers. And Snap causes some embarrassing bugs in Firefox in the Ubuntu family, so people thinking "I want an Ubuntu-like OS b

The problem is modern MS doing three contradictory things at the same time: - FB's move fast and break things . Constantly launching new libs. - Linus's we do not break user space . Great commitment to backwards compatibility. -

I'm a firm believer in always using an auto-generated surrogate key for the PK because domain PKs always eventually become a pain point. The problem is that doing so does real damage to the ergonomics of the DB. This is why I fundament

Depends on length and complexity, imho. If it's more than a line or two of procedure? Or involves anything counterintuitive? DRY at 2. Extract a method or object if it's something that feels conceptually a "thing" even

As much as relational DBs have held back enterprise software for a very long time by being so conservative in their development, the fact that they force you to put this relationship absolutely front-of-mind is excellent .

I miss the days of earlier AI image-recognition software that would emit a confidence percentage. New LLM-related AIs are all supremely confident in every assertion, no matter how wrong.

Except in "Brazil" it was a mechanical error in a deterministic machine caused by an invasive outside actor. It would be reasonable to trust that the autotypewriter/printer would faithfully output the correct text. Modern AI

It's not about the article, its' about the flotilla of comments in this thread with unfounded layman "theories" about dietary changes that are the root cause rising colon cancer rates.

"health theories" is how we got a nice new batch of measles outbreaks. I work with health research doctors and I've too much respect for them to humour "health theories". And they don't tell me how to do my jo

I don't want Kate to be vscode, I want it to be notepad.exe. I want it to open a document instantly and let me edit and save and close with no distractions or delays. I have vscode for vscode.
