Why didn’t they release their version of airdrop for almost a decade after iPhones had it? Google just doesn’t seem to care about these conveniences.

It would be better if iPhones embedded the airtag tech so on a flat battery, you would still have about a year of tracking time via airtags. Also the power button hold overrides the OS so you can shut down a frozen OS

You can queue and hold the data until your phone was already going to wake up to transfer something which reduces the wake ups. And it’s such a tiny amount of data being sent it probably wouldn’t total 1mb used in a year.

From the business perspective, Apple probably doesn’t care about selling the tags, the real value is in making the iPhone experience better. So if a user buys a tile tracker and it works better on iOS because of the iPhone network, that’s a

It provides value to Apple by providing value to users. As a user I want to find my lost stuff, Apple now lets me find my stuff without any real cost to me to do some passive scanning.

Another way is to comment and show support in a way that is not linked to your real identity. If people try to claim these are fake accounts, point out how people fear to show support publicly.

Following on from that, what does the FSF even do now other than making cringe infographics and some weird animated series about proprietary software being supervillains?

My favourite is how he says what the Apple store said the problem vs what is actually the problem is. One laptop “had water damage” but when Louis opened it he noticed the battery connector wasn’t properly inserted in to the socket. Plugged

Too many stories of people being deprived of bare essentials in US prisons like water and access to a toilet. It’s absolutely horrific.

How is it not reasonable to give up some things for the environment? Your health isn’t going to be doing so well if you don’t have a livable environment

It hasn’t been updated since about 2004. No idea how much has changed since then but the authors have stated they don’t update it not because it’s still accurate but because they don’t need new kernel devs and it’s a lot of work.

It’s too late to save the reefs. It isn’t too late the rest of the environment. Maybe the reef dying will be a wake up call for the world. But probably not.

The main argument I have heard is it’s less finding exploits and doing real security and more mind numbing auditing and checking boxes not to prevent attacks but to cover your ass when they happen.

The main problem with systemd IMO is that it’s written in a critically insecure language. If they could rewrite it in something safe but keep the same design, that would be ideal.

I don’t think NFTs come with any legal or copyright rights. And even if the nft did give you some rights, legally they probably wouldn’t transfer to the next person.

I imagine it’s convenient to them but being difficult for everyone else is a feature. They don’t want people sending in random garbage code so the barrier to entry is kept high.

It’s not so bad if you can get enough customers and it’s all the same laptop. Lewis Rossman has a very good knowledge of the MacBook internals and he can very quickly identify which chip is dead because it’s often the same chips that fail a

The thing is, if you leave it up to the companies to look after these people, it’s going to turn ugly every time. It should be the governments job to make sure everyone has a baseline level of life quality.
