I have tested them. If you nfc scan one not in lost mode, it opens a page explaining what airtags are and shows you it’s serial number. If you put it in lost mode, scanning shows the same page but with a phone number and a lost message. Bei

It isn’t. The tags have to be moving around and away from their owner. And if they really do go off and annoy someone. It’s trivial to twist the backs off and the coin cell battery pops out.

Just wait till your bike is on the move, then get a group to recover it.

Agreed. Previously I could not find lost or stolen items. Now I can find lost items. That’s a pure improvement in my eyes.

What police should do is keep a record of reports and their location and if too much shows up on one address, they investigate. I have also seen reports of actual police knocking on people’s doors looking for things that show as on their ho

People have posted the steps to do it. It’s not very hard. But if you are willing to strip the airtag to bits, it would be easier to plant a cheap android with a sim in someones car. The point is that stalking has always been possible, it’s

The main difference is Apple made it work way better and more accessible. Tile users are pretty rare in the wild.

The ultimate dream was being able to hook up a few spare hard drives and then earning enough tokens to host your backups for free. The problem is defending against malicious actors makes everything too complex.

The crazy thing is there are no nearby cars. There is a highway about 1.5km away which I assume it must all blow from. There is nothing else within 1.5km

First we have to get to the point where basic insulation and noise dampening are figured out. House quality is really terrible.

You can get some really high power induction stoves now. This one we have goes up to 12KW at full power. Boils a pot of water real fast.

I have noticed every time I open my windows, the no2 levels reported on my Dyson filter spike. Not sure what to make of it but it’s interesting.

Yes, reducing pollution always makes more sense than cleaning it up after the fact.

The cost would be so insane that no one would bother. Just park at the perimeter and take a tram or walk to the last part of your destination.

Ironically, following this advice makes the problem even worse as you now require a car to do anything. IMO, cities should just ban almost all car traffic from the centres so people can live car free without being poisoned.

I think it’s highly likely that in 20 years we will view diesel cars like we do leaded fuel. An insanely bad idea that we knew was bad at the time but continued to use.

The problem is that “reward users for accepting tracking” very easily becomes “punish users who reject it”. The reward will be getting back the stuff you had before this change so you are no better off. Apple believes that everyone should h

It’s because it makes no effort to prevent people doing insanely insecure things. Rails has a lot of safeguards for insecure things like using user input to update a record. PHP won’t even fix bugs due to backwards compatibility. They worke

If learning a couple of basic tools like an ORM and JS build tools is too much of a barrier, you probably shouldn’t be let anywhere near a database with real users data in it. PHP is too easy to get started with and let’s you do some truely

I have been sat next to a drunk person on a plane before. The attendant got me a new seat and the person was arrested at the airport. At the very least they should be able to move you if there is a free seat.

Some people want to use the iPad with a keyboard, mouse and external monitor. The iPad supports these things so why not let those users run full programs.

Emoji are for communicating to other people. I can’t imagine why you would ever send someone a message with a ram stick in it. OP sounds like they want the icon for a task bar. In that case they can simply import any SVG they want.
