But OpenPGP applet on Yubikeys can not use ECC keys (no generation, no import). PIV applet can use ECC keys (but that's not covered in the attached article).

I hope it's more full featured than regular Android Auto that is so basic (compared to what is built-in in my Skoda) that enabling it just degrades my "driving experience". The only added benefit is traffic info in Google Map

Yes, but my point is that only when the corporation issues the hardware themselves they can be sure that the user did not tamper with it. (It's not clear to me if that's what you're saying...)
