I'd say lines of code does matter if the set of functionality is the same, i'd wager that, if you have the same functionality in less lines of code, generally it's easier to verify that it's correct + avoid daft bugs. ..

Exactly how I feel about networking things in games, the amount of info out there is soo limited, you end up feeling like an explorer every time. .. Even though it's already been explored plenty of times. Do wish more game devs would w

I'd second Haxe, there's a lot of nice things going on in that space, and the language itself[0] has a lot of nice [1] features too, things like algebraic data types and static typing make me slightly less queasy with the idea of

I'm pretty sure it's a self-depreciative joke, in a "the best programming is no programming" kind of way, or at least that's how I saw it. Just take it for what it is, don't get stuck on the details. That said,

Certainly there's nothing stopping you in particular, (expect maybe the current lack of library support for it, but that could be fixed), not that Erlang is an especially good platform for the task. So while some people seem to claim E

The constructive thing in this case would be to introduce your own solution to the problem and argument for it, not bring the level down to day-care level and go all "wow, i'm just gonna avoid you now.".

I agree, and even if there _is_ talent to some degree, insisting that people simply aren't talented enough for something just does us a disservice when they simply need to work at it. "Oh no, I'm not that talented, I couldn&#

The title seems a bit misleading, the author goes on to talk about possible performance issues and how people view GC's and issues with manual memory management, but never actually touches on how to actually use any of the alternatives

The problem is that there's no reason why it couldn't also do versioning, in fact it would be sane if it did versioning, the fact that it doesn't just makes go get look like a glorified git clone. I'd like to hear these

You should really work on your language skills as a founder, it does not reflect so well on you (and Coding House) if you can't even spell properly when you're trying to defend your creation.

Theres an article series where the author explores this for a little bit, but with water droplets affecting the terrain for erosion[0]. It gets better as he goes along as he talks about adding various terrain features, and eventually also r

The array literals problem isn't so bad, the thing is static arrays in D are distinct types, so you'd say int[2] = [1, 2]; which would go on the stack, but doing int[] = [1, 2]; would allocate since it would be a dynamic array the

You can definitely survive without the GC, personally I've gone through eliminating exceptions entirely and implementing my own allocators throughout. There are a few gotchas sometimes, like array literals of certain kinds sometimes al

While explicitly sharing memory isn't a great solution to threading, one shouldn't think message passing is some sort of panacea either, you can end up with things such as race conditions or deadlocks if you're not careful th

If you haven't yet attempted to build some sort of sentiment analysis by yourself yet, be it rule-based or on statistical analysis, you should, even just a rudimentary rule based one is a lot of fun to implement, and it works surprisin
