I'm right there with you, but unless they're your target audience, it really doesn't matter what they think. Being an entrepreneur is kind of like having a really obscure hobby. Unless the people you meet are into the same stuff (i.e. vin

I got a kick out of the "Help us get featured on:" section. My first reaction was, "How on earth did they get onto... OH. Clever."

It depends on your niche, but publishing data feeds to Google Base and Amazon were huge for us. Amazon can be a nightmare to work with, though.

If the website is live, shut it off until they pay you. This has worked for me 8/10 times (the other two times, they just disappear forever, and you weren't going to get that money anyway). If you've ever been broke or strapped for cash,

I think it really depends on the app. How long does it take before people get the hang of it? What's the average time it takes for a trial account to convert?

This is fantastic! My wife has celiac. The geolocation failed for me, though - maybe add a search by zip or browse by state feature?

There are lots of successful apps with great names and less-than-ideal URLs - 37 Signals seem to be doing just fine with BasecampHQ.com, HighriseHQ.com, CampfireNow.com and BackpackIt.com. I use BeanstalkApp.com and PostmarkApp.com.

I've been using Rackspace Cloud for ~6 months. No complaints so far.

I ended up re-doing screenshots of my web app on OSX because the browser windows have slightly thinner frames. It just looked better.

It may very well be - I haven't looked at AWS pricing since their Win2k8 plans came online. ORCS has some high-profile supporters (Hanselman comes to mind), but I had a lot of downtime in the six months I used them.

How on earth is bumping the dates up unethical?

"Smug" might be a better word. Fairly sinister lighting, too. The photo was definitely the first thing I noticed.

I've used both ORCSWeb and Rackspace Cloud. I'm very happy with Rackspace Cloud so far (I've been there almost a year).

Second this. I also request a 50% deposit before I begin work, and tend to price projects at a level where I won't be completely put out if they never complete the project.

I've been working nights and weekends on a project since December, and will be launching within the next two weeks. I know it's a cliche, but you just have to make time. It's like exercise - sometimes you have to wake up at 6am to get thr

Yeah. I started a company after a layoff, and it was very, very rough going. I had to take whatever consulting gigs I could get on the side to keep things going, and those were a huge distraction.

I totally understand your anxiety. I've been getting feedback for my application over the last few months, and it typically falls into three categories: 1) Actionable items (e.g. this was broken, you should add this feature) 2) Binary Criti

Local client? Show up at his office. It's much harder to blow off people in person. Remain civil and cool, but be clear that you're not going to write this off.
