I'm not sure what to make of "belief in astrology is likely not a valid indicator of scientific illiteracy"!

GMail kinda has it. If you look in GMail Labs, you'll see the option to delay sending an e-mail by 1 minute. That gives you 1 minute to change your mind. I wish more mail clients had this feature.

It could also be that the Secret Service swallowed the "copyright math" bullshit, and treating is as a case of significant economic impact.

Maybe it just shows that they gave advertising too much of a free hand? "It's better to ask forgiveness than permission." and all that.

If they show that they take this screw-up seriously, then they could still come out looking pretty good.

I would like to believe that the responsible adults have now stepped in to clean up the mess caused by some moron in sales being given too much of a free hand.

If you think there is a rational case for suicide, fine, but I really wish you'd discuss it elsewhere. The purpose of my post was to nudge people who are affected by irrational thoughts of suicide out of that state of mind. Pro-suicid

Yes, I have. They have a delightful public face, but their internal stuff is absolutely batshit crazy. The CoS's reputation as a manipulative, abusive, destructive, and deceitful organisation is well-deserved.

Write to them and tell them what you think! Here's what I said: ------------- Sir, The Church of Scientology has a well documented history of deceit, manipulation, and ruined lives. The best way to limit the harm they cause is by discredi

I don't see why you're saying "but". We can put the summary at the top and mark it with TL;DR.

So why not save the reader some effort by putting the TL;DR at the top?

Wouldn't it be even better if the TL;DR was at the beginning so you didn't have to cmd+F for it?

I've never seen a TL;DR that wouldn't serve the reader better if it were put at the beginning, rather than the end.

TL;DR is a useful convention for busy readers, but it should be at the beginning , not the end. Look at the lede (the first sentence or two) of any article in any newspaper. It's marked in bold face, and summarizes the whole story. I

In the West, the vast majority of people who kill themselves do so as a direct result of depression. Their perceptions distorted, and their decision-making skills are impaired. If you find this "hard to comprehend", then perhaps you shoul

Life is precious, even in prison. If Aaron had lived, and gone to prison, I'm sure he'd have made a difference there, just like he made a difference in the outside world.

Quite so. But I don't think he killed himself because he feared prison. I think the fear of prison caused the depression, and the depression led him to kill himself. It may seem like I'm hair-splitting, but it's an important difference.

There are two kinds of addiction: physical and psychological. Pure physical addiction is easy to fix. You just reduce the dose slowly enough to keep the withdrawal symptoms manageable. Psychological addiction is much harder. Psychological
