The ORM works pretty well as long as you only need to do pretty basic CRUD queries, though I do agree that it gets much worse as your queries get more complex. Serializers are definitely one of the worst parts of DRF. Anecdotally, I used Py

Really depends on the location. I spent a bunch of time with family in suburban/rural Ohio as a kid, and the area where I used to live has rapidly been emptying out over the last 10-20 years. IMO, techies moving to rural areas is good

NYC being a large city, the story is slightly more nuanced than that. There has definitely been a large exodus from Manhattan and Brooklyn, but less so from Queens (where I live, and which was much less tech-centric even before the pandemic

This assumes that the market rate is constantly increasing. Given the amount of job losses that have occurred recently, there may be talent available at a cheaper price.

I strongly doubt that more than 50% of Facebook's workforce is on H-1B visas. This is really intended to stop TCS/Infosys/Wipro from bringing over cheap labor to the US.

Yes, exactly. It's this line specifically that pretty much drives that home: > Specifically, the bill would prohibit companies with more than 50 employees, of which at least half are H-1B or L-1 holders, from hiring additional H-1B

Rogan had ads on his podcast even before this partnership, and has had them for a long time now. I don't think that adtech is going away as long as there is a cost for the creator to make the content. Rogan (and other podcasters) have

Unlimited PTO means you're at the mercy of the company, pretty much. I am lucky to work for a company with unlimited PTO where most people take 4-6 weeks off per year. Other places are far less lucky.

It doesn't seem too circular to me. Rent control keeps your rent low despite rising rents around you. So in the case of the OP's friend, her rent is now vastly below market. In a non rent-controlled world she would absolutely have

It's a housing crisis by spillover - all the people in the Bay Area who can't afford houses there are going to Sacramento instead. Here's a particularly pointed and opinionated editorial on the subject: https://www

Bear in mind that Niantic (company behind Pokemon Go) was originally an incubated project within Google. So they have plenty of reasons to stick with GCP for the hosting. As for Snapchat they were originally on Google App Engine so that inc

This view seems somewhat reductionist, no? I don't work at FB and never have, but I could easily see a case for working on projects that contribute back to the developer community (e.g. React). These wouldn't be directly related t

A key difference with the FB privacy analogy is that FB tracks you off the site. If YT monetized content that isn't hosted on its own platform, then we might see a similar reaction.
