Well, you are right, but remember how old SmartOS actually is... I kinda hope more people get it, and start investing into that amazing open source technology. I always liked BSDs and Solaris more than Linux (who I find really messy and cha

I was kinda bummed when Apple announced that they are going with APFS instead of ZFS. I think ZFS is one of the biggest engineering feats in last decade or so of software engineering. It still needs wider adoption.

Good, reliable tool, with great native UI is very well worth one time $50 purchase.

I tried helm, but it induced slight lag, bigger loading times, and I didn't like that. I had big ass emacs configuration, it felt heavy and sluggish. That was the moment where I declared bankruptcy and started from beginning where I cr

I picked vim in the end because I already got really used to the workflow I previously mentioned. But there are many nice things from Emacs that I really miss. For example magit, various REPL integrations and much better support for functio

I was split between using Emacs and Vim for last 2 years (I used Vim for last 6, and learned Emacs 2 years ago). But what made Vim my main editor is fzf and ag, and smooth workflow that I had in terminal. But I have to say, ivy and counsel

I can relate to your statement to some extent. Why illumos is not "thriving" is _maybe_ because it does not have solid general purpose distribution. Tribblix is kinda trying to get there, but I haven't used it for more than f

I got the same impression. It's kinda lame. I mean, phone looks good, real, good product, but to me it seems it's biggest selling point is the man himself behind it.

You gotta be joking here right?! Because something is more popular doesn't mean it has quality over everything else. And with licensing we could argue about your statement. I will end it here with BSD's networking stack, kqueue, j
