But if you have two desperate communities that are really looking for jobs, how do you prevent them from racing to the bottom? In some sense that is the 'correct' market solution. Government is a form of collective bargaining for

Why? It's less readable. I like how JetBrains in recent releases renders ">=" as a single glyph. I mean maybe for typing, I see that as a benefit, but I'd hope my IDE would replace them with the proper Unicode charact

Local is too small to actually deal with these behemoths. Look at what happens when these large companies play municipalities off each other to get factories and facilities built in their jurisdiction.

I legitimately don't buy that. Legacy seems like really a mechanism for nepotism and reinforcing elite networks. While due to their origin they probably have racial skews, but I really don't buy that is their driving force. After

I'm not saying it as a campaign promise, I'm saying it as an uncomfortable truth for us who think about these things. How to sell it to the public is PR's job.

I don't think eInk will ever be capable of video-like refresh rates. It's had plenty of benefits, but refresh rates may never catch up. I have a secondary monitor dedicated to Slack, Teams, and Outlook. That would be perfect for t

The time to develop a network is when you don't need it. So for those of you with a job, work on it now. Add your coworkers on LinkedIn, message that old friend from another company for lunch.

If I had my druthers, String would be an interface with UTF-8, UTF-16, and UTF-32 (and UTF-7 on April Fool's Day) implementation classes. Then add Byte1, Byte2, and Byte4 as _unsigned_ primitives. Maybe have a wrapper class CodePoint t

Okay, but you could release the source code for the firmware, and only accept a signed binary blob. This would still be open source (GPL v2 compliant, but not v3 AFAIK) and auditable, but it still be conforming and certifiable.

It’s not forcing, it’s a choice that moving implies. I have felt that a country is like a religion and moving is converting. You wouldn’t expect your parishioners to meet you halfway. A country shouldn’t just be a zipcode you happen to. I
