If I didn't know HN better, I'd think this was a satirical comment. 1Password is a security product, and they are intentionally not addressing a legitimate security concern because they don't think it's worth spending th

I work in software and also run some pretty active open source projects, so I worry about this happening to me. I've felt somewhat burned out, or felt close to a more serious burn out, on a few occasions. What has helped me is to remi

I recently bought a new Yubikey 4 Nano, and it came with a USB-C adapter that holds on very nicely (as in, the adapter hasn't accidentally come off the Yubikey while in my pocket). It's a good choice if you need to use your Yubike

February 2015, nonetheless. It's almost two years later. I'd like to hear what developments there have been on the topic since this was published.

The Ruma homeserver implementation is specifically supporting this use case. The federation system will run as a separate application alongside the client-server API, so if you don't want to federate with other homeservers, you just do

I think Riot is a better comparison to Slack than Matrix is. Riot is essentially the Slack experience built on the Matrix protocol, but Matrix can certainly work just as well for clients that present a Signal/WhatsApp/iMessage

For the record, I totally agree with you here, and with your further comments below. The HN attitude that running a startup is some moral virtue is obnoxious. This company simply screwed over its users. They aren't owed anything.

Seems totally reasonable. I was just curious if anything like this had happened before. Can't wait for 1.15!

It should be noted that Riot is just the first Matrix client to support end-to-end encryption, but there will be more in the future. The thing you want to bet on is the Matrix protocol, not necessarily Riot. (Although both are a safe bet si

Is this the first time a feature stabilization has been made to a version that has already moved into the beta phase? My understanding was that beta was pretty much frozen except for bug fixes.

Great article. This is something I've been thinking about for a while working on Ruma, my Matrix homeserver implementation. I think this is a type of bug that a lot of application developers miss, but the consequences can be quite cata

Sean (or other Hyper maintainers), if you're reading this, it'd be really useful to have a tracking issue for the Tokio integration rather than just a branch. I'd like to be able to subscribe to something to keep track of pro

Great article. Very thorough. I'm really looking forward to Hyper (and in turn, Iron, or whatever replaces it) being rebuilt on futures-rs and Tokio. I'm eager to start using this approach in my HTTP programs.

Let me rephrase that: Do you spin up a new copy of any necessary data stores when you deploy a topic branch of an app, or do all versions of the app share the same view of data in their environment (e.g. staging/production)?
