The 90% figure is widely considered to be bullshit. Actual civilian-to-combatant ratios are around 1:1 in war, a la 50%. Granted, it's higher for urban warfare.

Are type classes scary? PHP has had them since 2012.

In all fairness, that's true for a lot of things in Iran, and some of those are not actually enforced or only enforced some of the time (which is where the forcibly transitioning gay people thing came from).

I don't think it is. At least from Iranians I've heard from, domestic internet was online for a little while but was turned off in February or so.

They could easily just censor that, especially since a dictatorship has far more control over the media compared to democracies.

The dimension you're missing here is that most of the Lisp OSs were single-user (AFAIK initially all of them were but some gained multi-user support later) in a period when timeshare was king. Not to mention that the hardware itself co

Not really the "fault" of UNIX. The Lisp workstations would have been just as unpopular without it. They were insanely expensive and the idea of a workstation was ahead of its time, not to mention the other "unneeded" ex

That's because apparently adhering to Wikipedia's own policies is a "pro-Israel" agenda. Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger (the founders of Wikipedia) have both called out the site/foundation on this, but I can't fi

See, from my perspective, that is exactly the problem. The people pushing said "anti-imperialist, anti-US" content are often the same people that defend Putin's invasion of Ukraine. The reality however, is that these are nich

Wikipedia is full of state-sponsored activity, and even fuller of useful idiots for those states. Russia might not be doing it in particular, though.

Neat. I thought ssh-signing was a different thing from gpg-signing but apparently not.

Graps seems neat in the way it forces you to sign your commits (which should really be standard practice) but I think Github itself has proven that interoperability is not that important.

I can understand that. It's a difficult problem design-wise and needs someone that knows crypto, so I won't hold it against software that labels itself as alpha.

Honestly, something like Radical seems a lot more seamless and complete. Or at the very least, I'm wary of Tangled's alpha tag.

Most Lisps have some sort of pattern matching in their standard library. Common Lisp has sum types with deftype.

You have to be wilfully blind, then. It gets rather frequently praised on HN (as much as any niche language can be), and they certainly don't make black-and-white moral judgements often.
