The worry that we're running out of programmers is rather overblown and proposed solutions are mostly counterproductive. We're not living in a planned economy - salaries and free movement of people will not allow there to be a gap

This is an equivalent to having 10% of your engineers work full time on OSS. I'm not saying it's a bad thing just that it's a big ask. I think it'd be better if companies instead opened their own code.

Video not available in my country. Would be more ironic if the segment was about distribution laws.

I was thinking the same but there's a photo. I suspect the author isn't American.

There are no gamdevs on the c++ committee, probably because games companies are cheap bastards and don't want to expend resources on something that will affect them 10 years down the line (or even 2). Join the committee.

The amount of upvoting and downvoting of parent comment is insane, please share your thoughts instead! It's just imaginary numbers that go up or down and mean nothing - don't be afraid to say what you think on their account.

I don't wish to derail but there are other e-ink readers that don't suffer from any of these problems. You can just read whatever you want on them in any way you want.

Come to Cambridge or London and work for a startup that appeals to you. Also if you don't mind being exploited you could try and join the games industry. Fun to work for as long as you don't mind the long hours and low wages. What

I did a CS course at AGH too. I had well over 100 people on my first year (couldn't physically fit them into some lecture halls), after first semester this halved. Second year there were fewer than 40 of us even after transfers. I thin

There was a lady in the UK who "lived on" a pound a day but both are really stretching the meaning of that phrase. "They ate food worth 1$/£ a day" would be less of a lie.

It's not even released yet but it's better? When will this early access bubble burst? There's cities xl as well (with the benefit of having actually been released), how would you rate it?

People always make EA out as some comic book villains but they're not doing this to spite gamers or against the wishes of the previous company owners. The creators go into these deals willingly and sometimes it's either that or ba

You should really ask yourself if you need to. If you're middle class, have a highly skilled job that pays enough money and live in a major city (and you have settled there) in a peaceful western country then it genuinely is a waste of

The animations are really neat but I was thinking the same thing. It's science porn with emphasis on porn. But I don't think they're meant to be educational - "just" impressive.
