I learned from an electrical engineer that works on systems for the power grid that running the whole OS in CPU cache is a requirement for some of those systems. I guess that makes sense when you are working with things that move at the spe

If this is the strongest criticism someone who I know is knowledgeable and intelligent can muster, it gives me more confidence in the conclusions of the book.

You're right that it wouldn't work technically. But legal compliance doesn't always make things work the regulators want them to.

Also the way cases will be brought seems like it would create perverse incentives on the rulings. > The International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution, or C.P.R., was willing to allow DoorDash to arbitrate “test cases”

While this makes sense, couldn't the founder personally guarentee the loan? If they have a strong income history, maybe collateral such as a home, it should be possible.

It seems like, in the absence of panics, there is a dichotomy between "You should know everything that can happen to your program and account for it." and "If you hit some unknown state, carry on." The first one is imp

I agree wholeheartedly. If we tell people "Don't write code that panics" then we collectively start writing code that assume panics don't happen. Suddenly panics become a footgun in Rust, and it isn't the safe langu

Geofence requests also require two warrants. The first warrant retrieves a list of locatuons for pseudonymous phones in a bounded area during a bounded time. The second request reveals the identity of select phones. Each time you need to co

Gosh, a lot of what you are talking about sounds like what it is like to finish a PhD that doesn't have a future in academia as well. Sometimes I feel like a failure for choosing software engineering, but I should probably be grateful
