People object to using AI to write their articles (poorly). Your answer to them saying it's obvious when it's AI written is to.. write it yourself, then pretend copy-pasting that article via an AI counts as AI-written? That's

I rarely encounter outright congestion in Australia tbh, but then again I avoid watching videos on the train.. so that's probably indicative of something :D Coverage is decent on Telstra, but if you're out of town reception is rar

I'm very confused, explain how this is not the case with C? I haven't written rust, but my impression is the benefit is more about deeper introspection of things like lifetime than basic typesafety, which already exists in C/

The person who is going to bother adding stuff to a piece of software is almost certainly by definition a power-user. This means they want to add features they couldn't get anywhere else, and already know how to use the existing UI. On

In the ideal case, but shareholders are distributed and often it's nontrivial to get enough involved to justify the effort and expense.

Money locked up in companies is managed at the leisure of its management, regardless of how good that might be for anyone else (ie. the shareholding owners). Money sitting there doing nothing is a poor use of it, so most companies are encou

I think most would disagree XD. Phones these days are often more expensive than the chair and can be pretty inconvenient to replace, especially if you have nonrecent backups.

Usually there's an accessibility option of some kind that disables animations; at least it exists in android and I feel like it existed in iOS (though I haven't used that in ages). I'm surprised Mac doesn't have somethin

The point is that it's all just an excuse. So long as the app store is your only alternative they can charge 30% and get away with it, and they'll say whatever you want to hear so long as it lets them continue to do that. They don

If the money is leaving the system slow enough (via Employee wages and materials for chip manufacturing) I suppose it can go on for quite some time.

You can buy laptops with essentially identical CPU performance to desktop plugged in nowadays, so long as you aren't thinking of thread ripper. On the move laptops will always be a bit slow because all the tricks to save idle usage don

I recall reading a reddit comment (resounding source, I know) that claimed the reason Intel's e-cores are crushing it is because they actually synthesise them, while the P-cores are a bunch of bespoke circuits bodged together. One wond

I suppose the problem is Intel doesn't actually have the fab capacity anyway. They were building it, but that's all on ice now, and probably wasn't close to TSMC anyway, I'd guess. This all ignores the near complete lack

Unless Nvidia outright absorbs intel I think Intel would have to be kind of crazy to stop developing GPUs. So long as the AI craze is hanging in there it feels like having that expertise and IP is going to have high potential upside.

If you wanted to acquire Intel you'd do it now. Maybe Intel's future products are garbage and they do worse - but the upside seems pretty high otherwise. This seems like a bit of a firesale price to acquire an advanced fab and CPU

tbf, If I were Nvidia and antitrust wasn't an issue I'd be tempted to buy the whole thing. Intel has a market cap just 2.5% of NVDA, so you could give away just 2.5% of your stock to buy the entirety of Intel. It's bonkers.

Path dependence I guess. Software is what people want and once a software ecosystem settles in place it gets a lot harder to move away later because of all the stuff you have to adapt and fix. As far as I can tell there's no inherent r

What's the hardest part about an open phone? Cellular support? App support? Maybe I'm unique, but nowadays 99% of my phone time is spent in a browser. If anything, it seems easier now to get something like this going because all y

Google runs datacenters hot because it's probably cheaper than over-cooling them with AC. Chips are happy to run at high temperatures, that's not an issue. It's just a tradeoff of expense and performance.

Intel CPUs are decidedly better value when multicore performance is a concern. At the top end they trade blows. If your workload is pointer-chasing intel's new CPUs aren't great though, and the X3D chips are possibly a good pick (
