A little off-topic, but how should one go about incorporating their side project/saas? Is it ok to start off as a sole proprietorship and later set up a LLC? I'm sure a lot also depends on local laws etc.

He mentions MRIs costing 2-3k€ a pop. That seems really expensive. I’m guessing this is US? Doesn’t competition push down the price of these operations? We’ve got private clinics in Finland offering MRIs from ~230€ without any subsidies (AF

A little off-topic but I’ve been thinking about technological progress and its impact on inflation recently. In 2018 Jay Powell partly blamed Amazon (and others) for pushing prices down so much that the fed wasn’t able to hit its inflation

As a Finn this keeps me up at night. According to the World Bank data our GDP per capita was roughly equal to that of the US in 2008 (even slightly higher for a while) [0]. Since then the recession hit us a lot harder than the US and our ec

I feel embarrassed saying this but I feel both Clubhouse and TikTok are pretty amazing. Both of them lower the barrier of entry on content creation and make distribution easier when one is starting out.

I'd forgotten about that. Apparently they stopped development on it in 2018 [0]. [0]: https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-46262520

Off-topic, but I wonder if/when realtime glucose monitoring will ever come to the Apple Watch and other activity trackers.

Not necessarily, at least JAMStack front-end frameworks like Next and Gatsby can co-exist with Wordpress because headless support from WP. That said, newer CMS's have their work cut out for them.

Loved the episodes with Jim Keller [0] and Brian Kernighan [1] as well. Lex really does a great show and has amazing guests. [0]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nb2tebYAaOA [1]: https://www.youtube.com/watc

On a related note, the fast development of a COVID vaccine seems to have triggered a sense of techno-optimism in certain bloggers / commentators. Here’s a recent summary by Noah Smith on the topic: https://noahpinion.substac

I've been wondering about this exact combo for a while. Your site looks nice. Any gotchas when using Shopify as just the backend? Did you use the Nextjs e-commerce starter template?

I don’t think you’re wrong about the lack of VC funding having an effect on the European startup scene. That said, I’m a little baffled that Ottawa can produce a behemoth like Shopify which has a market cap ($130bn) larger than Spotify (~$6

I’m running something similar and have to admit that the ~70$/month for CloudSQL grinds my gears a little. The pricing for Cloud Run on the other hand is pretty sweet.

Can't argue with this. We've got a small market and few companies with internet based business models.

While most salaries fall into the aforementioned ranged, I'd point out that software companies in Finland with "scalable" business models, do have pay more inline with big tech companies. Obviously there aren't many of t

Idk about Norway, but in Finland you can stream them on C-more [1], which is now owned by Telia, the teleoperator. I suspect this is also the case in Sweden. [1]: https://www.cmore.fi/ohjelma/44002009/muumilaakson-

I'm kind of salty that they decided to make the new Moomin series as a 3D animation, and not continue in the anime tradition of the previous series from the 90s.

The immigration debate is obviously really complex and I don't have anything sensible to add to it. That said I'm Finnish and our birth rates are falling and its not clear how they'll bounce back. The mass immigration of 2015

I have a related question: Is high-touch saas (enterprise sales with long sales cycles) inherently harder to bootstrap than a low-touch saas business? I'm guessing the answer is something like "not if you have the network"

Honestly, their investment into game pass and cloud streaming is currently making me choose an Android phone over the new iPhone. I feel like actual AAA gaming has never been more accessible than it is now.
