Pimsleur is awesome for pronunciation (I've had a Dutch speaker tell me I sounded Dutch when I explained, in Dutch, that I couldn't speak Dutch), but after you finish the initial work, you get a rather limited vocabulary of about 500 words

This doesn't bode well. If you get involved in the spoken language learning community (and hey, who doesn't?), you quickly find out that serious enthusiasts hate Rosetta Stone. It's known for its marketing prowess and not its pedagogy. He

One of my former colleagues shocked me when he revealed that he was a medical doctor but gave it up because he hated it. Instead, we hacked on software together. It's amazing how many different backgrounds there are in the field of programm

No, the article covers this. Dropbox is great, but it is based on document syncing. Apple has document syncing working just fine. Like database synching, Apple and Dropbox both have issues. To get a hint of the problem, you can read this po

So, in my spare time I help people become expats. The (precious few) studies of US expats show that most of them have moved to other countries for someone they love, followed by work or adventure (search for von Koppenfels' study). Very few

I didn't want those grapes anyway . There are many schools out there who produce CS students who haven't the foggiest notion of how to code in anything other than Java or maybe Python. They don't understand algorithmic analysis. They would

Interesting. For me, I learned OO with Perl (scary, I know), but really started grokking it when I learned to Java. Finally, I started studying Smalltalk and when I found out that it doesn't have "if" statements (it creates boolean objects
