U2F is freaking awesome. It's rare to have something which is both high security and not a pain to use. I just wish the banking and financial industry would get onboard. For customer accounts, they are mostly using SMS, but some of t

I could see Yubikey going to a NFC ring at some point. For PCs all they would have to offer is a USB NFC transceiver. There are probably still some engineering challenges getting all the cryptographic functions and NFC power transfer into

It is interesting to compare the security of a yubikey+pin vs yubikey+fingerprint. Both provide similar and really good security compared to popular authentication mechanisms like static password, sms, and even authenticator apps. But a so

The problem is that your fingerprint is really just a set of information attached your body, similar to a long static password. Not very secure and you can't change it if it was compromised. The fingerprint on the yubikey is really jus

The key in the video was flexing from being pressed for the fingerprint. Hopefully that does not cause longevity issues. My USB-A yubikey has proven durable so far, but it only requires a very light touch to activate.

The construction labor rate difference between the US and Europe is surprising, especially given the stronger unionization rules in Europe. "Although the material and equipment costs are similar (within 10%) for projects in the United

In addition to a pointer replacement, there is an idea of using eye tracking on a virtual keyboard with a swype type entry.

"unless you reuse the reusable bags thousands of times." That is not what the report in that article says[1]. In Table IV, for a conventional cotton bag, it has to be re-used 52 times in order to equal the LDPE plastic bag in the

Or you could just use reusable bags... That said I fully agree with the larger point. We have to be willing to weigh and accept tradeoffs.

From my experience, if the frame of the vehicle is functionally damaged then the car often totaled anyway. Maybe that is not true for expensive cars like the Model Y.

(not sure if you are still reading this thread but I would love to convince you) So if the poor get back more than they put in, how can they be disproportionately be funding it? A carbon tax+UBi is not regressive, if the rich pay in more th

Again with this red herring, "Jeff Bezoses of the world remain largely unaffected". Jeff Bezos consumes and releases way more carbon than the average person. Private jets, multiple mansions, a fleet or cars, a private rocket com

This is a red herring that keeps being brought up with respect to UBI way too often. "Carbon taxes unquestionably fall hardest on the poor, as do consumption taxes generally." Yes, but rich people consume and release carbon at a m

At NASA the standard seem to be SI units for anything in space and Freedom (English) units for anything inside the atmosphere. It is bizarre. The funny thing is looking back at Apollo documents from the 60s is that many of those were in SI

Your number assumes the car is driven 100,000 miles a year, which would get it to 400,000 miles in 48 months (4 years). The original comment assumed 10,000 miles a year, which is on the light end.

I hate how well off people assume poor people are getting large benefits. Most people under the poverty line do not receive over $1k in means tested benefits. Also, millions of Americans living in poverty receive no benefits at all.[1] [1]
