I was thinking about that too. I am probably being too optimistic, but wouldn't it solve the problem if peer-review had a pre-screening phase where you give a presentation about your work? Similarly to how a PhD presentation is given.

That's not really what I am saying. I think it's a tough problem to solve: how far should we help drug addict in their addiction? Is the goal to help them survive, help them stop using drugs, help them find a job? Depending on the

How are you supposed to help a person like that thought? I understand that you cannot reason too well with an addict, so it might be surprising to some that somebody would refuse shelter if it meant being clean. Still, what should be the ap

The optimist take: maybe building things faster will lead to the dead-end of a product faster and thus force companies to reflect? In reality, I have a feeling that it would lead to even more encroachement, more doubling down and less usefu

I don't really see how this would work anyway. Even if you find a way to 100% watermark any text, couldn't you just use a non-watermark model? I have a hard time believing every AI company on heart would comply. Hell, even if ever

Because they are an integral part of the solution generation. By distilling, you are training a model via Reinforcement Learning (RL) to mimic the answer of a bigger model. To do that, you need all the steps that contributed to generating a

I really wonder how much of safeguarding with SOTA models is actually just "Don't do that" in a prompt? I'm building agent to control machines at work and have to rely on small models, which are especially bad at remembe

Yeah, the reason I don't see it how it would be successfull is that most public labs are usually struggling with money, so it would definitely cost them less to build their own automated pipeline.

I think you should learn from the reaction of most people in this thread and avoid it (if your audience is mostly technical people) for the following reason. A. If it's unrelated, it doesn't add anything to the post except aesthet

I've always wondered about these brainteasers: do interviewers really expect people to solve them? The truth/lie one is pretty well known so either: A. You answer it from memory. B. Have to actually solve it, which from my experie

This is a problem with soft rules and LLM in general, and it makes sense that it gets worse on complicated tasks with long context. Glad to be able to put some numbers on it.

Open weights models are trainable. However, I would not count it as "easy" as you generally do not have access to the training material, so there is a substantial risk of model drift if you use weight-based retraining. However, wi

I think the misconception here is that they "give them away". Sure, you can download the weights and run it yourself, but to run a 1T+ parameters you need roughly 2TB of VRAM (for full precision). That costs around $500k to $1M, n
