I think that globals are not a problem when "you have a good [enough] understanding of the code you're writing." The problem is when code bases grow, references to globals can start to appear in lot of different places, and t

Isn’t O(n) here relative to lines of code? So O(n) * k is just O(n^2)?

I feel like this is a bit of an oversimplification of a complicated topic. For example, qualia is not a solution, it's a problem! And while Dennett does present an interesting picture (especially in the way he resolves qualia), there i

This is really interesting. As part of my undergrad research I've built `silverfish`, which is a tool that turns WASM binaries into LLVM bytecode. It's currently pretty chained to how I personally compile my C to WASM, but it'

This article is pretty blatant flame bait... Statements without evidence abound, like: > At the same time, the EU hopes to pass a law that will effectively render the act of carrying reasonably large sums of cash — say, anything above €1

This is a good point. But to be super pedantic, there isn't a size of infinity large enough to describe how many sizes of infinity there are.

But Erlang now has strong competition on BEAM. Sure, none of those languages will be replaced, but surely some will lose market share to up and coming languages.

Here is what they say in the introduction of the second paper: Bidirectional propagation of type information allows the types of parameters of anonymous functions to be inferred. When an anonymous function appears as an argument to another

If I'm understanding what you want correctly, Rust kinda will get that once the `!` type is stable/used in type inference correctly.

This title is so misleading... It makes it sound like this is a button for cops to get into a phone, but it's really a button you press to turn off Touch ID until a password is entered.

The short wait times are because of the higher costs/smaller number of people having access to MRIs. It's a tradeoff, and honestly I don't think it's worth it.

The problem is gender roles. Women are taught by society to think that, as women, they should go into certain careers. These careers, like teaching, tend to be lower paid than the careers men are encouraged to go into.

Not to be rude, but why do you think that contributions to in-house/closed-source projects should count as contributions to open source? By definition, if you contribute to an open source project, you should be able to point to the pub

Scala has its problems, but it is not anywhere near as clumsy as Java. Where Scala falls flat is implicitness, an overabundance of features, and extreamly dense syntax for very high levels of abstraction. Its syntax is actually quite nice,

Maybe what you're saying is true, but that simply isn't the reality we live in. JIRA is a great comparison point as it produces a lot of value for a team. Do you really think your tool provides 10x more value than JIRA for a team?
