This is entirely true. I don't understand Snapchat's valuation in the slightest, which is why I mentioned it here in comparison to this acquisition. I'm yet to see how large audiences and advertising revenue are an answer to

Presumably Microsoft has a perpetual license to PrimeSense's IP? Or does someone else entirely own that?

Regarding the headline, "A sensible exit: PrimeSense bought by Apple for $345M", does anyone have any opinion on the price here? It seems reasonable, but really just serves to highlight just how absurd the Snapchat offer was ear

True; this seems a bit silly at first glance, but imagine how much money a YouTube-like site could save if videos were converted in the user's browser before upload, rather than by the server.

Yes, very true, but this is in part because silicon is simply understood so well now. Trust me when I say we could do just as exciting things and more besides with other materials if we just understood them half as well! To illustrate what

This is really exciting! For those not familiar, 180s (edit: as previously published[2]) is a phenomenal amount of time at room temperature and it seems they've beaten that now too. I was just looking for this recently in another comme

I think that's GDDR5 which is something different (and roughly comparable to [edit: DDR3]). Also, for this comparison, hasn't DDR3 had much higher speeds than 1066MHz for a while now anyway? isn't it up to 1866MHz? so the com

Great tool! Thank you :) I'm not personally vegetarian, but I found myself looking for one recently when I was in London and found it far too difficult. Minor suggestion: I'd make the "Vegan" label say "Vegan Only&q

Yeah, I can't remember the last time I saw someone sign for or swipe a credit card in the UK: it's all chip-and-pin now, all the time. This looks like cool technology but it just wouldn't work here.
