That's a really cool re-design. Two things I liked about it: collapsible comment threads, and comments that are readable on mobile. Honestly, if the HN design remained exactly the same but fixed those two paint points I'd be happy

Double Fine Productions is definitely worth checking out. They've recently released Broken Age, a successfully-kickstarted effort. Act I is out now and is absolutely wonderful (in my personal opinion), with Act II still in development.

I wonder how difficult it'd be to write OCR-style software for Gregg. It'd have to be more sophisticated; character recognition alone wouldn't be enough, you'd have to do a bit of Markov modelling with most probable sent

Seconded. I was recently trying to find a good resource to simply and concisely explain (or at least give a 'feel' for) artificial neural networks to someone and came up blank. Everything I found was either assumed too much domain

Very cool. What's the current best tool to help make the .srt file? e.g. the current best-of-breed text recognition / text alignment tool. Last time I looked at something like this there didn't seem to be a particularly robus

Reminds me a lot about 'optional chaining' in Swift (among other languages I'm sure), at least on a superficial level. What I'm not sure about at the moment is where best practices suggest you should use them–it seems li

It's disappointing to see this comment at the top of this thread considering the amount of work that Apple has poured into OS X over the last few years. Criticism is great, but comments like "Apple continues to apply lipstick to t

So so happy to see the SceneKit API make it to iOS. Even though 'minor' compared to some of the other announcements, it was the number one thing I was looking for in today's keynote, and it was nice to see it featured. Can&#x

Perhaps it was just for the benchmark, but it seemed ambitious that they're testing encryption algorithms with it already. Does anyone know if Swift, by design, could help avoid issues like they've had recently with Secure Transpo

Thanks for the link; that's actually very informative. My interest in DNSSEC came from reading that it provided a mechanism to securely transmit SSH host key fingerprints, though I'm not sure if there's a better way of doing

Off-topic, but speaking of spurring adoption of DNSSEC: does anyone know of any good (dumbed-down) guides on setting up DNSSEC on personal domains / using dnssec-keygen? I keep seeing it mentioned in HN threads as a Good Thing, and I k

This sounds like a great project! Worth bearing in mind though that computer screens only output in RGB, whereas the colour vision of bees is shifted to that of people; it's more G-B-UV than RGB.

As I understand it, it was actually a point of contention whether a NASA astronaut or a SpaceX astronaut would fly first. I think they decided on a NASA astronaut in the end, but it seems like SpaceX definitely has plans in that direction..
