Capitalism wants not just consumption but increasing consumption. In that vein, a decreasing or stagnating population is bad for capitalism. Capitalism wants the pie to keep getting bigger. Look at countries where population growth is negat

Maybe this explains why my Hisense TV, which has an ATSC 3 tuner, stopped working with ATSC 3 channels after the last update.

I’ve replaced several broken screens and dead batteries on Android and iPhones. It’s a very common issue. Screens break and batteries wear out.

Static file generation. People are suggesting that tooling creates HTML files from templates at compile time and then served as plain HTML.

I agree. It’s static content. Why isn’t it just generated as HTML with some JS for the search bar?

The RSC stuff seems to just add a vast amount of complexity with little benefit. It feels like the end state here is going to be HTML+CSS with JS for interactivity using APIs, which is exactly what I was doing in 2006.

Doing database lookups on the server was the primary reason people STOPPED doing server side render and shifted to JS+API. Why do we now think that the way we used to do it was actually better?

I also am baffled by the return to server side rendering as the new thing. It’s like people forgot that’s how it used to be. I’m sure they’ll claim it’s different now because… hydration or something or another. As a former PHP developer who

Why are GPU drivers baked into the kernel? Wouldn’t it be better to load them in such a way that a crash in the GPU driver can be recovered from as opposed to crashing the whole system? Other operating systems load the GPUs drivers separate

My concern is over e-waste. If it becomes impossible to install custom firmware on a device then a lot of electronics will just become garbage when support ends or the company disappears.

I completely agree. To build my array I had to buy several drives at the same time. To expand I had to buy a new drive, move the data onto the array, and then I’m left with the extra drive I had too buy to temporarily store the data because

No one has mentioned the 2880x1920 resolution display. That’s fantastic I’m this price range. $500 laptops are (nearly?) impossible to find with displays above 1080p.
