I have an AMD Ryzen 5900X and it is nearly the same in single core and much faster multi-core (12 core). So I don't think it's accurate to say that x86 needs 4x the silicon just it match the M1.

The vast majority of developers will never even see assembly for x86 or ARM. Compiler developers and those need to hand optimize code may care but for everyone else it's a black box.

JavaScript today wouldn't be recognizable to a JavaScript developer 6 years ago, especially when using class syntax, destructing, and async/await, among many other syntax additions.

An unfortunate side-effect of this type of system, in my experience, is that you end up being stuck on very old dependencies for a very long time. When a security issue is discovered, perhaps months or years later, it is extremely difficult

People don't do this because `node_modules` can be absolutely massive (hundreds of megabytes or more), and a lot of people don't like (for various reasons) such large repositories. There is a deprecated project at my work that com

I had (probably still at my parent's house) a Commodore cassette deck, 2 1541s and a 1571. All modded of course. I remember using the cassette deck but it was definitely a stop gap to a real disk drive.

I haven't read it but "smart" isn't some universal trait. One can be "smart" in one area and really dumb in another. I don't understand how someone can be a good chef. You can be great at that, intuitively

Exactly. For me, I can upgrade my existing desktop by spending $560 on a Ryzen 5900X. I have all the other parts so there's no additional cost. I also don't need portability nor a fancy display because I use all external monitors
