This is a neat extension of CSS to allow designers to create simple interactions. I like it as a mechanism targeted slowly at that use case, and I like it even more for determinedly limiting itself to solving that use case well. The same de

Sure, if that piece of work is completely predictable, and no rocks fall on you. But shit happens, and project management is still a dark art in many other ways.

There's no difference; you're still entirely at the mercy of the producer of the artwork. You pay your money with that understanding upfront (or you should, at least). Sure, vet your artist a little for their track record. All you

Passwords are weird. You give a site your user name and password via a form. Your browser converts these into a http request to a link via parameters. The site sends you your account page, or makes you try again if you fluffed it. Isn'

Slightly ironic to see (for me) a Google Adwords voucher being advertised in the corner of the webpage this anti-surveillance tech article is presented on.

I should have added - these are the only actions you can take at each level, so no arbitrary updating of views when you're in the left-hand side of the controller stage, for example. That stops the arbitrary circular information flows

I like the approach to managing information flow that is outlined here, but it's over-stating the case to say that lack of such control is a failing of the Model-View-Controller architecture. There are patterns you're supposed to

This is something of a solved problem for many of the major javascript frameworks. Sproutcore (just to pick an older example I'm familiar with) has had this licked since 2008; you put all your DOM-upating code in your view update calls

You can already embed Python in Excel. There's a few different projects that do this; here's one: http://www.bnikolic.co.uk/expy/expy.html The article doesn't do any close human-factor analysis of why Excel is so much more accessible than

I love the great taste D3 displays in its design. Some real thought has been given to how the user interacts with the library and the conventions he or she needs to convert data to graphics. Fantastic stuff.

Does it work in Safari in the Mac? I tested it there but no joy (Safari 6 on 10.8) I've been struggling with Safari myself - it only allows you to catch paste events if the user is pasting into a text box - unlike Chrome which lets you catc

True. I'd forgotten how incumbent 'big' business sets barriers to competition in the manner you describe. Though this kind of barrier still leaves them susceptible to competition from other, non-incumbent, big players (if any remain?).

I'm not at all convinced the EU would be the best target for this kind of lobbying. Startup company supports vary widely by member country, and even by region within those countries. Certainly in my case (Ireland) lobbying agencies like Ent

Except, from the original article, I don't get why they don't just set up in Denmark & avoid setting up in Dublin altogether. They must be doing _something_ worthwhile with those 2,000 Irish employees. Disclaimer: I'm Irish.

Looks like some sort of Excel plugin. Googling 'excel decision tree' gives you several options.

Funny headline given the opening paragraphs point the blame at the bankers. Really it was a small group of bankers, politicians and regulators that crashed the country - backed up by a dis-interested electorate (until it was too late).

Actually, one of the reasons I like Sparrow so much is that Google Chat isn't supported. I know I can just leave it turned off in the gmail interface, but if I'm ever bored and feel like seeing who's around it's too tempting to switch it on

Saying that an area the 120% size of Central Park is deforested yearly to create business cards doesn't at all follow from what they claim. There may well be 24,000 trees in NYC's Central Park, but the last time I was there it was far from

As something of a Fry fanboy I get the sense that the Time sub-editors did some serious work on that article. Much of the tone remains but the progress and overall rhythm of the piece seem off-kilter from what I'd expect.

The FAQ does list several languages based on the pi-calculus. My favourite is Mozart/Oz ( http://www.mozart-oz.org ) - it is based on the pi-calculus (using dataflow variables for channels) and also encodes the lambda-calculus. A wonderful
