I've given up fighting white boarding. If anything, at least it can be gamed, plus if their expectations are bad or you got bad luck on a topic you didn't study for, at least you get to waste their time as well. I'll take t

I experienced it and got more depressed than I'd ever been before. It's absolutely not for everyone.

It's all in my brain. It's not a good idea and I know I should be keeping a budget, but every time I try, I end up ending reaching the conclusion that I should just focus on making more money instead. I have reasonable rent, no

I throw away rough drafts all the time for non-trivial work that I don't fully understand yet. There are different approaches to it, but I usually just create a throwaway branch to hack out a naive solution until I run into the non-ob

Sorry for the downvotes. For the speedrunning community, somebody pointing out that using glitches during a speedrun is cheating is a bit like making an obvious joke about somebody's last name. Not the first time they've heard i

I remember going to the Wilsonville Fry's as a kid and playing Gran Turismo 2 for PS1 in an awesome demo setup with a steering wheel, shifter, and huge TV. I went back last year to the same store and found it downright melancholy. Li

My living situation, for one: I have no easy way to charge the thing while living in an apartment complex. That anxiety alone keeps me from going to a dealership. Range anxiety doesn't bother me, just the ability to keep the thing go

The entire landscape of being a wage slave is "dangerously hostile". I can't think of any place I've ever worked where I would think this was a good idea if I wanted to keep my job. Not saying I agree that I should los

I spent 3 months fully remote, and by the end I was fully depressed. There’s something about looking at the same walls of my apartment for 14 hours a day that just did not work for me at all. I would occasionally go to coffee shops or wha

Maybe, but programming now provides a stable income for way more people, whether it's their passion or not. In this day in age, the ability to put food on the table trumps any sort of bit-banging nostalgia IMO. The fewer gates we kee

2-5 interviews a year feels like a lot, but I _do_ recommend interviewing at least once a year. I'm now ~10 years into my career (I have a CS degree as well), and interviews scare the hell out of me and keep me sharp if I ever need to

If you're a developer, in the USA, and you don't work on your life's work...why? There are limitless companies where you can put your 40 in and not literally burn yourself out to death.
