It's not about Yahoo and other big players. The edge GTalk had was it was capable of talking to my server and to my friends' servers. Now that edge is gone, but it's really not needed any more, they have enough mass to not care.

ZOMG! Nice blog entry! Lots of steam released. :D And now the question: why do people build apps and shove it down other people's throat? Most of what they do can be done via a ("mobile") web site. Hell! Most of them are useless without int

How is that pathetic? Looks like a nicely engineered _PHONE_ with dual sim capability and can also check your emails/web sites/etc. To top it off they come with a battery LIFE that puts the whole industry to shame! I think you are greatly o

What I do not get is why do governments and so on keep vital infra connected to the damn Internet! Haven't we learned anything from BSG? You don't keep nuclear plant computers on the same network with Facebook!

Would love to try it, but the "Linux" link points to a DEB package (I'm on RPM distro ..) that's missing (404): http://41j.com/hterm/hterm_0.0.1-1_amd64.deb Can you provide a generic binary?

As an admin who unfortunately has to deal with "cheap hosting" quite often I'd say "Please, NO!" to that. I don't think RoR and "cheap hosting" are compatible. RoR adds a maintenance overhead that kills the "cheap" part. I did admin work fo

Shared hosting is hard. Been there, it sux; you have to keep everyone happy with multiple versions of everything. By the end of it, it will look like the primordial soup. Whoever manages to do it and remain sane has my respect; shared hosti

Ceph has a yum repo for Centos, although Cephfs still does not work (maybe it will be backported to the "ancient" EL6 kernel someday). You can use the fuse client instead. Configuration-wise, Ceph involves quite a bit of voodoo compared to
