If you are talking about running Windows specifically under KVM, then switch your display from VNC to Spice, change the video adapter to QXL and inside the Windows VM install spice-tools from http://www.spice-space.org/downl

Throughput speed is not everything, in many situations latency is more important. Can you give results for this? dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=512 count=1500 oflag=dsync I'm getting "6.40264 s, 120 kB/s" on my lap

NX (also check X2GO, OpenNX etc) is very good and it's as fast as RDP. Much, much better than VNC.

Next time buy a Steam box ;-) I'm not sure Sony's actually worse than Microsoft, which says enough about both.

Yeah, someone seriously needs to whip their greedy arses. I guess we need even more competition to drive these dinosaurs a bit out of business. It's the USA and ASIA that should follow Europe, not the other way around.

Yes! Browsing the site logged out is much faster! I gather they use less caching for logged in users etc. It takes 2-3 seconds to load my profile page and another 2-3 if not more to load my comments page..

Though having a community obsessed with speed, optimisation and scale, HN is the slowest site in my bookmarks, by FAR, not to mention the times when it's not working at all, sending people to a twitter page (happens every day). I hope

Check https://www.greenqloud.com/storageqloud/ They run Cloudstack for compute, but not sure what they run for storage.

Yeah, I guess the line between marketing and technical is not very clear all the time. Re Openstack, indeed it has failed the "VPS" market which is still going strong.

What I meant is Rackspace (also RedHat, HP, Mirantis etc) would have you believe that if you're not running Openstack then your "cloud" is shit and has no future. DO clearly demonstrated otherwise. They're inflating the

Every day, working with customers' products or witnessing stories such as DO's I realise that success is 90% marketing and 10% actual technical stuff. You don't have to have the greatest features or too many of them or even a

The news should be about anyone serious still running Windows (XP!) in ATMs. Why hasn't everyone switched to Linux or BSD 10 years ago is a wonder. I've seen last year an ATM stuck in a reboot loop of some kind running OS/2.

Fair points. 1. If you need to restart your server because patches, then you restart it. :) 2. Backups: AFAIK you can simply just backup /home/user that runs GitBucket. "To upgrade GitBucket, only replace gitbucket.war. All G
