A lot of Apache work load is now behind Nginx or Haproxy, I wouldn't say those numbers are entirely truthful. Consider how Plesk panels nowadays go with Nginx proxy by default, but Apache in the backend; CPanel will probably follow soo

I'm using Syncthing to distribute files in a web cluster of a few servers instead of using shared storage - thus avoiding the spof. Works quite well, with a few gotchas (ie make sure you don't sync cache files, session files etc).

On the subject of VPNs, if people find *swan or Openvpn difficult to get working, I highly recommend OpenConnect (ocserv); _so_ easy to setup. It's an open source implementation of the Cisco AnyConnect SSL vpn, works great and it'

I have not read that anywhere, I did it many times without data loss or other issues. You just need to use a relatively recent distro (Centos 6 +). If you use xfs, watch out, you can grow a fs, but not shrink it - which is why I use ext4 wh

All my VMs have a separate /boot and ext4 as / (xfs would work, too). With this setup - using KVM, mind you - I can change the disk size of the VM and resize the / filesystem inside by just using resize2fs, no need to reboot,

HERE Maps is great for that, I use it exclusively, also does offline maps which is handy when we're abroad (because "data").

Looking at all these "enterprise" horror stories, I don't think ESR's 1 year is nearly enough. 3 or 5 years might be more suitable.

Talk about starting on the left foot.. The spammy comments from the newly created accounts kind of ruined the mojo. For the demo they really must insist to have your mobile number (they send the password there), kind of dodgy I'd say.

That's great. I was referring to the whole stack. Should I upgrade all my hosts, docker, kubernetes, openshift, gitlab, mattermost ... what would be the chances of something to break to the point of ruining my day/week. Not everyt

That looks pretty darn neat! As a sysadmin though, I do wonder how maintainable and especially upgradable is that thing without breaking half the world.

It's simple. People are oblivious or just don't give a shit. As long as they can share their cat pictures and so on, it's all fucking dandy. Something really bad needs to happen to move things in the right direction. Snowden

Nice idea and willing to try it, but.. "The requirement for self-hosting is to have docker and docker-compose installed on your machine." Fsck that. If I will trust this with my passwords, I need to know how to _really_ install it

From their docs, nftables is "available upstream since Linux kernel 3.13. It supports 3/4 of the existing iptables features" - 3/4 is still a long way to obsoleting iptables.

It looks like you'd need a cat C license to drive this (in UK), alas. Still, the DIY-er in me loves the idea, hope they do well and get even cheaper.

Yes, this "silly" kind of thing bit us a few times as well. It's good RHEL/CentOS 7 defaults to XFS now which doesn't suffer (as much) from this problem. https://gagor.pl/2013/11/inodes-on-

It's absolutely possible to run an email server in 2016 and I encourage anyone capable to do so! Email is one of the bastions of the decentralised Internet and we should hang on to it. Every day more and more people are moving to Gmail
