Do you have any source for this? I'm pretty sure wifi needs to be on for location assistance (Google Maps complains about this all the time).

I don't think that will get you anywhere, because you can't realistically solve any of these problems. What helped me was to use open source software a lot, by switching to Linux and using FOSS Android apps (have a look at f-droid

What's a good resource to learn about crypto? I'm using the java.security and javax.crypto implementations, definitely not implementing algorithms on my own.
