ECMWF is the best which is available globally. But often there are local models with are better for specific regions.

You can see the most important charts from the ECMWF model for free on ecmwf.int. But you will not get the data behind them.

Europe was always great in weather/earth observation from space. Their stuff basically works 24/7/365 without causing much noise. With fully automated data intake processes.

Picking it up is no problem for some specialists in the (ham) radio scene. They are mastering X- and S-band stuff so good that even the NASA asked them to join in some observations in the past. But: Meteosat is very famous for encrypting th

Can you tell us some war stories about the software your group wrote for the satellite? Stacks? Testing? Firmware Updates? Programming languages? Thank you!

We are not seeing a correlation between channel saturation and/or alien non-related stations. IMHO MT has a fundamental algorithmic flaw when it comes to dealing with very unreliable and lossy links.

Meshtastic has a reliability problem. We often cannot get beyond one hop - and our network isn't too loose nor too dense (60 stations). Cross test with Meshcore doesn't show any issues. Chats over 5 hops have almost a 100% success

It's mostly LoRaWAN which is great for very-low-rate telemetry and very simple control tasks.

Semtech LoRa Modems are wide frequency range modems. Latest generation also supports (non-LoRa) frequency hopping. The signals are difficult to spot once you are in some distance to the transmitter.

But better having the government shooting down your 10€ ballo.. node with a F-35 instead of a 50€ node.

I've tested >60km links with Meshtastic without problems and had plenty of SNR left.

You can build a Meshcore/-tastic station for less than 15€ if you are into PCB design. It's like fighting against off-the-shelf drones.

The decision that every station is always a (delayed) router was a bad one. Also the old firmware was super chatty eating a lot of valuable ISM TX time. They must clean up their role mess and switch to a "all clients are totally quiet

All Semtech LoRa modems are wide-range modems. You can switch to basically every other frequency. An idea would be to move to SX128x modems with work around 2.4GHz. You recycle Wifi-gear for directional stuff. This also enabled you to hide

There is Mesh(core|tastic) around. Both use LoRa. With tiny solar repeater that placed on a strategic hill you can cover lots of kilometers. Being sensitive down to -145dBm opens a lot of doors. I was able to build energy harvester nodes th

Thanks god the headphone jacks died in smartphones. I switched to USB-C soundcard cables which are dirt cheap and survive much much more plug-unplug-cycles. They easily can be replaced.

On ISM frequencies encryption is allowed. Triangulation will work as long as you transmit. But it will be difficult as LoRa works down to -145dBm which is an extremely weak signal.

Slow RS485 or CAN. The differential nature of that system sphysically removes most the the unwanted signals.

Honestly .. MC is very successful in terms reliability doing it their way. Ignoring that will with full force doesn't make MT better. Hopefully MT catches up. Their GPLv3 license is much more attractive to me than the MC MIT.
