When I graduated uni in the late 2010s it was still quite popular. Budget airlines have made trips to southern Europe a lot more popular/feasible for a boozy weekend with mates, but for people who want to go backpacking for a month or

To me it just suggests that the blog is going to explore the topic at a low level, ie, discuss the transmission of bits of data via cables or radio waves, rather than discussing HTTP or TLS or whatever. Which in general is something I find

I assumed the metro layer was specifically for underground lines, as they won't show up in the normal layer. I just checked for London and the tram lines and stops show up as expected in the standard view.

With respect, only an American would think that the competition ceases to be interesting just because the US loses. This is already shaping up to be a really interesting WC with or without the US. Political leaders intervening to give their

A surprise to see Flann O'Brien pop up in the comments. While we're here, I will say that At Swim Two Birds and The Third Policeman are fantastic books, I highly recommend them.

I use OrganicMaps a lot for long walks and it's great. Works perfectly offline if you have downloaded the map of the region beforehand, which is helpful if you are in an area with poor reception or just want to conserve phone battery b

Same. Well, I did buy the PinePhone Braveheart edition a few years ago, but never did much with it. I keep an eye on the PinePhone Pro and PineNote in particular, these could be fantastic but it seems the software ecosystem is quite slow to

I had a similar experience trying to use an old laptop with 2GB of RAM. I was surprised how much it struggled with basic tasks. I remember my first computer with 32MB of RAM. Obviously we live in a different world now but still, it's n

I think it's just that it's a cool game that's popular with HNers. Same with 0ad and other software like GnuCash. Always interesting to see what new features they have introduced and even just read how others play the game.

While it's true that everyone is ultimately driven by self-interest, I don't think it's true that everyone is a NIMBY. Many people just don't see development of their area as being against their interests. Local business

Namespace pollution is an annoying problem in Rust. A while ago I was looking for a crate to help build something to interact with Apache Solr. Great, there's a Rust crate called `solr` on crates.io. And here it is: https://
