The interesting thing is that the foundation of the TV system is built on the increasingly obsolete concept of broadcast TV. If you could get rid of that, and force all content providers to compete evenly via the internet, we'd have much mo

I think you guys are getting lost in the hypothetical vs the reality. Is it hypothetically possible, yes. Is there any evidence it is true, no. See my comment below to see how cnet confused a physical bug with some inherent bugging capabili

Here is the original source, the court memorandum. You can see how grossly irresponsible/lazy/stupid Cnet was. Note that it is VERY clear that the government is asking to install a physical bug into a phone that works when the phone is off.

You are conflating a hypothetical with a real claim. it is hypothetically possible, but it isn't actually true. And you can ensure in many ways. Like measuring the power usage when your phone is off. Like looking at the source code of the o

That's exactly the bad article that started the misconception. This is a case where you need to let common sense override your trust in journalists. You are probably smarter than them, you know more about tech and phones than them, don't tr

Most of your points are great, but I just want to point out that it is not true that your phone can be tracked when it is turned off. That's a misconception that is propagated by a few very poorly written articles that misinterpreted some c

The commenter said it is the "best in every single regard" which is different than the "best whole package." Setting aside subjectives like whether it is the most fun to drive or the most convenient, it definitely isn't the fastest car, or

Kleiner's investments were in solar panels and lithium ion battery powered cars that were at best small improvements on old technologie that weren't efficient enough. If someone has a fusion reactor coming online, invest in that instead.

There a lot of reasons Kleiner was foolish without even touching the global warming debate. $100k electric sport cars aren't a real solution to global warming. There is cheap abundant politically connected dirty energy. There is abundant cl

The silicon valley support for green/clean energy goes beyond rationality. They were investing based on faith (or hoping for bigger government intervention) and got burned.

It reminds of one of Facebook's early growth tactics - as part of the contact import process, they'd send out spam IMs to all your contacts saying you just joined Facebook and ask if they wanted to join. It was very shady.

It is good to hear that was your experience, because it is disheartening to think that knowledge or education would be negatively stigmatized in any community. Interestingly, Barack Obama is one of the big propagators of that idea. I think

The US spends 6% of the budget for interest on the debt, and 2% on education. Doesn't that say we are already deep into the problem, are already too deep in debt, and need to reprioritize? The bigger the debt is, the more legitimate spendin

I agree, except when the amount of debt gets so large, and goes way beyond the immediate. Then it becomes much more clear that it is a problem. There is a case to be made that in 2008-2009, a big, debt financed, short term stimulus could ha

In regards to your analogy: let's say you aren't salaried, but are self employed. Now you take on a a big mortgage, and spend you income on paying your mortgage instead of investing it in growing your business. Government debt slows growth
