MacOS, with a slight help from MS, very, very nearly tipped the balance to Pascal in the 80s. I dare say that without C++ hitting mainstream around 1990, C would have languished.

vmware had a free version of their server/cloud offering for a long time (since before it was vSphere/ESX), for a while it was even the best version of vmware until they nerfed the virtual console UI.

There were actually PCI and PCI-X external chassis boxes (in all 4 forms), they were expensive as hell, but they were a critical tool for developing PCI/PCI-X devices. They usually used 1 or 2 scsi-3 (80-pin) connector to connect from

I had a quick future glimpse of spreadsheets evolving to VR 'conspiracy boards' with red string between cells; just for a second, while reading your comment. It's probably the future, and I'll probably hate it.

The tatung was designed in bradford, UK, then manufactured in Korea, 4MHz Z80, 64KB of RAM (upgraded to a 256k option by the EOL), AY-3910 sound, 2x 3" floppy drives built in, a built in 80 column monitor, and a video system comparable

I'd prefer to buy a theoretical open-source R8000-R12000 based board*, but the only 'open source MIPS' stuff I ever see are low end R4000 and R5000 microcontrollers. * Yours sincerely one of the few people that isn't off
