Well, my application level firewall prompts me if audacity attempts to connect to the internet, and I refuse it. Refusing firewall access to a web browser renders it useless for every website, not just a 'audacity as a service'

Apparently, the cause of the long standing windows disk IO problem was discovered a month or so ago, and MS were said to be working on a fix. Whether it'll be constrained to Win 11 is yet to be seen.

They were 720k not 1.44MB. I don't think apricot released anything with a 1.44MB before they gave up on the PC market.

It's no worse than the other JPEG names: JNG, JPEG LS, JPEG 2000, JPEG XR, JPEG XS, JPEG XT JPEG-HDR is probably the only one of them that gives away what it might be for.

OTOH, FOX have argued in court before that they're an entertainment channel, not news, so should they get reporter's privilege‽

'max' and 'modular' made me think it was something Cycling'74 related at first, but it's not that, damned name collisions.

I've seen elevators that show the current occupancy/max on a display, so they're tracking it somehow.

all of the multiport chargers I've used are power only, I'm not even sure what the point would be in putting any kind of host computer in the charger, since there's no protocols that would benefit from it.

TBF, my experience of america when I lived there, was that black asphalt was far less common than light grey (and thus higher albedo) concrete for both. Increasing albedo is considered to be one of the geo-engineering solutions to try.
