Replying here, but also to the other response: I don't really have a formula (and if I did, I best be trying to sell it!) but for my case, it came down to letting friends and colleagues know that I'm open for work, and settling in

If you appreciate wearing a lot of hats and roving around to create real value, it might be worthwhile to look into going independant! I'm ex faang and have managed to carve out a comfortable independant consultancy where I can kind of

A client of mine is enduring growth induced ORM hell right now. The struggle and existential threat is real. It can take days for them to even track an evil SQL query back to the actual code. There were fetch-one calls that literally carry

My local arcade had this game back in the 90's and it got quite a few of my quarters. One thing that stood out to me back then was how cool the music sounded. Beneath the brassy and tinkly FM synthesis they had these sort of choral sam

One can order hundreds of pounds of silly putty directly from Dow Chemical Company for a rather reasonable price. If you need to pull the pictures off of a whole newspaper page, for instance.

The SCI/babashka clojure interpreter might be a good fit, if you're ok with a lisp. It's mature and fully sandboxed. https://github.com/babashka/nbb

Agreed, though somehow a few of my accounts have escaped that recommendation minima in YouTube. Not so much on tiktok or any fb property. They really force the onlyfans market-funnel jiggle videos into your face..

As an adult child of alcohol and drug addicted parents, I can say that the interplay of empathy and anger for a parent with a destructive mental illness is a pretty complicated and personal thing.

My sloppy distinction between hard sci Fi vs soft/fantasy sci Fi is how much attention is paid to artificial gravity, and how serious of a hazard the vacuum of space presents. In space at least. Likewise with paradox in time travel sto

Asdf makes all of this pretty easy. For consulting I often need multiple versions of everything to match client projects - Just install them with asdf and put a .toolversions file in the project folder with the desired tooling builds.

Clojure is a serious contender. To be sure, it's still niche but it has a good ecosystem, piggybacks on mature java libs, and has an active community. It's thoughtfully opinionated, which I appreciate. Also clojurescript is almost
