It really depends on your power costs. In certain parts of Europe, power is so expensive that Hetzner actually works out cheaper (despite them providing you the entire machine and datacenter-grade internet connection).

The main problem is that the megaphone dynamically adjusts its volume based on how much “engagement” is being generated by what it’s broadcasting, encouraging inflammatory content. This can be weaponized by commercial or state-sponsored act

The media has an incentive to frame things as "protesting against Musk" but I wonder how much this is simply due to BYD's better price/quality ratio? Tesla has had quality issues long before Musk's descent into madn

Having an API would mean people actually build useful things and potentially stop “engaging”. Having an MCP server allows them to jump on the AI bandwagon while being pretty useless and not a threat to any “engagement” some of their employe

Just because a company’ business model isn’t advertising doesn’t mean they don’t have oxygen wasters in marketing/product whose performance reviews are based on “engagement” aka amount of human time wasted.

You’d need to get rid of a huge chunk of the tech industry that relies on “engagement” to justify their job. I don’t expect them to just go away without a fight.

APIs were popular when technology was a tool to empower the user. But since then technology has mostly shifted to an ad delivery vehicle. APIs get in the way of that (by allowing its user to actually accomplish something besides “engaging”)

It’s afflicted by the same disease: overuse of JavaScript and the need to give JS developers something to do. If you actually load up a ~2015 version of Jira on today’s hardware it’s basically instant.
