If this happened surely the benefits would be two-edged. Ubuntu/Linux would unlock all the potential of sharing applications of Android, while Google would suddenly gain the ability to run a desktop OS on the android stack. This is obviousl

I second this, I also find myself impulsively smashing enter multiple times sometimes between commands, if I am typing in a series of commands, its just so my brain can catch up with what I want to do.

Read in some other HN comment that its just android underneath, so this would suggest that the normal apt-get route might not be an option?

The donations system is great, but I would have preferred to see a push for a community built up around free and open source software. The idea of a young person beginning to code and polishing their application and uploading and getting so

I loved this article as it clearly demonstrates Jeff's love of all hardware. There is no real hatred for any brand here, and he complements all the major devices while remaining objective. One comment I would make is regarding this, "I knew

The argument for not teaching children scratch. "You don't need to start kids off on some fake programming language like Scratch." I have no real affection for scratch, but I feel that he was making the argument that children should learn

I can't believe they upgraded the iPad to version 4? This seems like only yesterday that the iPad 3 was announced. Also Marco says at one point about the six different versions of the macbook pro for only 3 different size points. Is this a

Good article, especially the LocalForward config was new to me. One real usage that is invaluable for me, is the fact that the config is used for SVP also. This saves a lot of typing. With a key based login set up, copying files to a server

What I mean is I may use the same picture for a number of services i.e Twitter, Facebook, and that same picture might also be my Gravatar. If I had added the Gravatar a while back, and had forgotten about it, it would look like the service

The thing I found a little jarring about this, is that if you are not registered for gosquared, it still can get a gravatar you have registered on gravatar. Despite me not being registered, entering my email, it is as if they already have i

Not sure whether they should mimic GUI tools, however having tools which provide a graphical user interface, but are fully functional (or at least as much as is possible) from the CLI is the ideal way for a program to be in my opinion. Wher

I know that this is only for iOS but I would definitely sit through a few ads, if they were to improve the quality of the youtube application for android. 1. I need to be able to leave it in the background and for the video to still play. 2

This is slightly off topic, but I don't really understand Miguel de Icaza. He is a "free software programmer" according to Wikipedia, and I really value his contributions to both the GNOME and MONO projects. I am not trying to in anyway put

Does the ratio of users to repositories seem strange to anyone else? This to me looks like each user has around 1.5 repositories. This seems quite small? On average most accounts I've seen have far more than 1 and a half repositories.

My idea with the smartphone is that if the content is available why not just stream it rather than have it as an augmented reality experience. In every way I see the phone being a more whole and fulfilling experience in this case.
