I could be wrong, but my understanding is that people were generally pretty optimistic in the early 1900s (before WW1 obviously). Everyday applications for electricity were rapidly changing daily life for people.

To some degree, I do appreciate the fact that it was shut down just to illustrate the fact that all of these sites and services are not "real" and could disappear at any time. I think it is good that people at least keep this fact
