I'm excited for hash partitioning. Being able to partition on a uuid is going to be very useful.

Agreed that type-safety preventing training script failure is not the strongest argument for OCaml. In my experience, the far more compelling reason to use expressive type systems is that they allow you to be more specific about your domai

My first job out of college was at a startup that focused on financial regulatory compliance.. I had no CS degree, barely knew how to program, and was generally a mediocre employee. I quit after five months and went to a company that offe

You may want to take a look at Fable[0] if you haven't seen it yet. I'm considering using it for an internal tooling work project in the near future. [0] http://fable.io/

I have no affiliation with this YouTube channel, but here's a guy who does an entire in-depth series on how to build a house from scratch[0], from surveying the land, to getting permits, to pouring the foundation, and so on. Good way

I've thought that getting Xamarin Forms working on this thing could be interesting for jump-starting app development. There's already GTK support for XF[0][1]. [0] https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/xamarin

Why no comparisons to the pension systems in other countries? I'm always hearing about how Europe has a much more generous pension system. Do they work the same way? Are they all similarly underwater? If not, what are they doing di

Aha! A new platform, brilliant! And better yet, it could be a common runtime, for different languages to inter-operate! But what would they call it?! ;)

I use a Thinkpad X1 Carbon as my daily driver with Ubuntu and it works well. My main advice is whatever laptop you choose, make sure there is good driver support (unless you really like tinkering).

What can you achieve using OCaml modules that you can't do using objects with a constructor in F#?

For desktop apps specifically + functional programming, F# is probably your best bet. On Windows WPF is king, and F# works great. For desktop apps on Linux and elsewhere, you can use Xamarin, GTKSharp, AvaloniaUI...and the list goes on.
