Ah, so since Scala Native is not built on the JVM you can't just take a pre-existing Java library and make it interop. You need it to be real Scala. The only options then are to use a convertor or manually port the library from Java to

Play uses it specifically for in it’s JSON module; you can define readers and writers that allow you to parse the structure of a JSON object. To avoid having to be very explicit, you can define a case class that directly mirrors the structu

You're talking about Play Framework, I assume. They did some fancy work with Macros (i.e. Scala Reflection) which causes a lot of headaches for Scala.js. The reality is most of the reflection it does is nice but not necessary and I rea

This makes a lot of sense in OpenGL (with a Geometry Shader) but in something like Metal I'm not sure you would get a lot of efficiency gains due to the way the command encoder manages state where each encoder would be a separate targe

Curious; have they made any statements on their versioning? I've seen mature projects years in development that are still 0 for major and in the teens for the minor version. Despite breaking changes Swift is now a 3.0 project?

Think game engines or legacy C++ projects there were ported to the platform and already have their own network implementation.

That's incorrect. Check out figure 10-3 here: http://j.mp/1NkSBaF If your App does not support IPv6 on the official rollout then you will no longer have network connectivity. If you use native platform functions you&#x

This can end up being quite awkward. You end up being the 'belle of the ball' and end up having to weed through a _lot_ of, well, not so great ideas. Remember when everyone had their own idea about the 'uber of x'? That.

I think his conclusion is valid; compilers can now handle register assignment and other boilerplate pretty well (Metal does this superbly and SPIR-V seems very good). My only qualm is that he treats these aspects that he deems outdated as u

Impressive until you get to C++ and it turns into a random hodgepodge of 404s or really weak references (no pun intended). Also, this same cheat sheet has been shared on HN 14 times now. Not a bad thing but interesting none the less.

This is the kind of broad generalization that someone that knows a lot about Python but very little about other languages would make. The truth is most of these features have existed in other languages for many years, before C++ adoption an

I cringe when I see code like this: if len(vals) in range(1, 5): It seems like a harmless enough thing to do but that code is effectively creating a new array with values [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] and testing if the result of len() is in that arr

Stencil check rejections based on overdraw don't hurt as much as you'd think. Liken it to a clip() (or discard), which is a single instruction. The GPU pipeline optimizes for this. The approach you linked too is very well thought

What I like most about this technique as opposed to other "draw a font as curves in a shader" approaches is that it's actually very fillrate friendly. Instead of drawing a quad and calculating curves (or curve segments) over
