How has the scaling effort gone? In the first post you mentioned that you were just rewriting code to remove bottlenecks. Have you had to make any more exotic and interesting changes to the code base since then to support the growth?

I used to bike about 20 miles a week, and I really miss it, since I moved to a more suburb area where it is no longer practical. Projects like these sound awesome, and make me wonder what it would take to get something like it started here

I think there is a place for productive criticism, and asking questions like "Why is it so hard to scale 4chan?" or "Why couldn't Amazon keep their cloud service online?" But the key is you must be asking the question to learn, not just to

Same here. In fact, the AWS dashboard was still showing 2/2 checks passed for some 20 minutes after Pingdom told me my site was down. Then the AWS dashboard finally updated and told me that 3 minutes ago my instances became unreachable. Tha

I noticed in Google Chrome that the edges of the crane figurine did not quite meet up, so that there were black lines in the body of the crane where the separate planes didn't quite meet. I've noticed in the past that CSS seems to have real

Snow Crash is quite a classic book. It was actually one of the books that got me interested in coding/hacking. Anyone here who hasn't read it should do so right away. I'll be interested to see if Joe Cornish is able to pull off the technica

First of all I think the lawyer is clearly wrong to take such a foolish case, yet I don't think it is right that so many people chose to attack him personally. Ultimately he's just doing the job he was hired to do. If he can make some money

Very interesting. Why do you think your wardrobe grew so much after you switched to female? Do you think that you grew your wardrobe to better fit the image of a female in the eyes of others, or was it a natural impulse that came from withi

One fairly important thing I couldn't figure out how to do was move the image around. I guess I expected it to work like Wordpress or Blogger's post editor where you can drag the image around to adjust its location in the text. Instead I co

I came here to say exactly this. Whoever was in charge of their video design failed majorly. The constant head shaking was very disconcerting to me and I felt like he had no confidence in his own product.

Well on the bright side, since they already have the code for creating an HTML representation of the objects it should be fairly trivial to make an embeddable version of the infographic which is HTML/JavaScript and which can even be dynamic
