A million words shouldn't take tons of storage, right? How big is your database? I spend around 500 megabytes on offline maps for OsmAnd and don't really worry about it. I would have naively guessed a million word definitions woul

My point is not that the default assumption should be either the supernatural or the natural, but that perhaps actual agnosticism is the humble stance.

A very good and relevant point. I was raised in conservative American evangelicalism, and sometimes forget how oddly small this culture is in the global and historical scope.

People who genuinely devote their lives to following Jesus do seem to be incredibly rare. I've historically believed in the Nicene Creed, but I doubt you could see much unconditional love in my practical actions, my ideals notwithstand

If you don't understand it, how do you know it's natural? Not saying it has to be supernatural, just that if you think it's not yet understood, being sure it's not supernatural seems like unfounded confidence.

You might want to look at some of the more modern / postmodern branches of Christianity. Some people who practice it sincerely don't think of the Bible as a literally true document that has no mistakes or inaccuracies, nor a ruleb

I asked a question about whether a recent outage was impacting SWF, as the status page showed that it wasn't. I got a confirmation from AWS staff in just a few minutes: https://www.repost.aws/questions/QUTPxjIgdcSW

I'm a fan of using code formatters to define how you lay out code in a file. Prettier is popular for that job: https://prettier.io/ For detecting functional/idiomatic/behavioral issues, ESLint is my go-to:

I'll argue that, in an ideal world, most of the questions you're asking here should be addressed before anyone writes code. A basic spec, with "here's the idea", "here's how I plan to prove the concept via

I was worried about this for several years. I then had the realization that if someone manages to genuinely automate programming, humans will wind up still being in the loop to confirm that the generated code is reasonable under the hood, a

In every cult I know of, the worshipped man is physically present to benefit from the worship and control the followers. Christianity didn't really have that, ever, even if you take the Gospels as sober, rigorous history. They claim th

Schlock Mercenary is a sci-fi webcomic with a fun thread about sapient dinosaurs fleeing Earth pre-impact. There's no good way to read just those strips, but it starts here: https://www.schlockmercenary.com/2018-07-25
