Gah, giant twitter button taking up like 10% of vertical space on mobile. Wtf? Combine it with the permanent menu bar at the top and its like I'm reading on an iPhone 3 here.

Sure, there's a local provider that uses LXC containers on your local machine (Ubuntu only), and we're working on a way to use LXD (which is a much cleaner local environment). If you are running OSX, Windows, or a non-Ubuntu linux

Would have liked to see Juju in this comparison. Maybe juju is too flexible, since it's not restricted to just deploying docker containers? (disclosure, I'm a Juju dev)

Ahh, confusingly worded. I would expect it to say something like "if you use pip install, don't use sudo" not "don't use sudo pip install" ... the alternative to "don't use sudo pip install" is

I use Ubuntu, but I've been a Windows software developer in the past. I don't immediately discount that platform, because I know a ton of developers run Windows.

Wow, that's awesome. Nice work integrating this into caddy. Although, it makes me even more confused as to why they used python for the official client.

I really tried not to make it a rant. Sorry if it came off that way. Just seems like they made some unfortunate sacrifices to keep it as a python application (like Windows support).

Why python for the client software if you obviously already have Go experience in-house? Using python means you have to run all this virtual-env crap in a bash script, apt-get install a bunch of crap for setup and not support Windows. Seem

Phones have two gigs of RAM and four cores these days. Low what? If you're talking software on an internet connected fridge, then, maybe, but that's a pretty niche area even in today's mostly theoretical and overpriced IOT

If you'd seen the graphs you'd see that the stop time is related to total memory used. 10ms only happens with a large number of gigs of memory being used. For more reasonable amounts (up to a few gigs) the stop times are 1-3ms.

I don't believe it's been forgotten, they just ran out of time. There aren't infinite code monkeys working on this thing. AFAIK, almost all of the dynamic linking stuff is being done by one guy - Michael Hudson (a fellow Ca

The "stop the world" phase of the collector will almost always be under 10 milliseconds and usually much less. ...and all of a sudden, GC becomes a non-issue for all but the most highly performing software.

The nice thing about Hugo is that there's no install step. Just download and run with zero dependencies. Plus it's literally 100 times faster than jekyll. Friend of mine with a large blog (1000-ish posts) has to wait over 5 min

The idea is that, when you add a new field to the struct, the behavior should not change if that field is given its zero value. Thus, all the rest of your code continues to work as it did before. If you change the code such that the zero v

It's not reckless. Go has zero values for a reason. When writing code, you need to take into consideration what it means if one or more of the values in your struct is set to the zero value. It's pretty trivial to say "ok,

In my experience, checked exceptions in Java just means most of your functions end up marked as throwing "Exception", or if you're more disciplined, throwing "MyApplicationBaseException" which is not really much bet
